Guanacaste Parks and Volcanoes:

Rincon de la Vieja National Park (alt. 1916 m.)
At just one hour car from Playas del Coco, this park is part of the larger Guanacaste Protected Area. A total of nine craters compose the Santa Maria and the Rincon de la Vieja itself, but only one is active. Nevertheless, walking the easy trail into the Park will bring you to fumaroles, vapor and volcanic mud spurts, as well as bubbling mud ponds.

Imagine yourself  hiking in a beautiful forest, with many varieties of trees and animals, such as Howler, White Faced and Spider Monkeys, Coatls, Deer, Toucans and other 200 species of birds.
You can either visit the Park on your own or have us arrange a tour of it  for you with an experienced guide, or organize a visit to one of the nearby lodges for a horse-back riding tour and a dip in thermal sulfur water.

Arenal Volcano
A magnificent one day tour to this active volcano and its lake will bring you through the Rain Forest, with its incredible rich nature, to the volcano itself. Visit the Fortuna Waterfalls and treat yourself to the relax of the magnificent Tabacon Spring Gardens, its hot water pools and its reviving mud massages.  Permit us to arrange this pampering tour for you, to interrupt your aquatic adventures in Playas del Coco.

The giant Leatherback Turtles

Las Baulas National Marine Park
Playa Grande, a short hour and a half drive from Coco, hosts the giant Leatherback Turtles (Baulas) for their nesting. From October to February, solitary female leatherbacks (measuring up to 2 mts.) come ashore, at night, to dig their huge nests:  an unique experience, not to be missed if you are here during that period! You can either visit the park by yourself (let us reserve the entrance for you) or take a restful tour on which a specialized guide will accompany you to the Park and drive you back at night!

American Crocodiles

Palo Verde National Park
This Park provides refuge for thousands of migrants and resident water birds, numerous land birds and many other animals. Explore this fascinating park on the  deep, slow moving Bebedero River, home of many wild creatures, from bird to bats, from crocodiles to iguanas. Bordering the Palo Verde Park, all the way to the Tempisque River, the Bebevedero is lined with dense mangrove and is the refuge for big, showy water birds. Usually, you will see several American Crocodiles and large numbers of different iguanas. Do not forget your camera!
